Duolingo tiktok11/10/2023 Looking forward to the rest of 2022 and beyond - What does that mean for the new way to market? Referenced in the 'Short-Form Video Fast Facts' image above, the focus shift to short-form video production has already started. "By being creative, patient and open to experimentation, (Duolingo) ultimately uncovered what people love." (Gahan) This focus on 'entertainment first' is, at its core, the blueprint that Apodaca's video created - publishing relevant and entertaining content, with the marketing component taking a backseat and Duolingo is following this concept extremely well. They leaned into entertainment as the hook to lead consumers to education" (Gahan). Through their iterative process, they discovered that being entertaining first and highlighting their message second was key to their success. Not to mention 7 million likes and a 19% engagement rate. Just a couple of months ago they were at 100,000 followers…now they have 1.7 million. "Duolingo’s TikTok has become a phenomenon. What does all this mean for today's market and how marketing professionals reach new and untapped target audiences via TikTok? One of the most interesting examples of a brand utilizing TikTok and its unique approach to marketing and brand awareness is Duolingo. The Curious Case of Duolingo: Entertainment First, Message Second The figures and statistics that his video brought the platform had never been seen before - and the trend has not stopped. Apodaca posted as just an ordinary 'byte of everyday life became a blueprint for the world to follow. following the TikTok video, climbing as high as 36 on the Streaming Songs chart" (Montenegro). 'Dreams' was reportedly streamed over 8 million times in the U.S. And it wasn’t just the company that benefited. And with it, Ocean Breeze received a wave of positive light and a boost in sales. " The video exploded in popularity, spreading all around TikTok and across the internet. Nathan Apodaca, filmed himself on his skateboard drinking Ocean Breeze and lip-synching to the Fleetwood Mac hit during his morning commute to work in September of 2020. TikTok: Overview of the Platform and its HistoryĪ man, a skateboard, a bottle of Ocean Breeze's cranberry juice, and Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" were all the components needed to introduce this paradigm - unexpected, huh. However, it would not be long before a new contender would take this concept of business-to-consumer interactions over a social media application in an entirely new direction. At the time, this was revolutionary - allowing brands to curate a new social media 'voice' or 'presence' to interact and relate to their customers. As Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg said during a Facebook Social Advertising Event around the Ads platform launch, "For the last hundred years, media has been pushed out to people, but now marketers are going to be a part of the conversation.". 'Traditional' marketing efforts, defined by Facebook launching its Ads platform in 2007, focused heavily on allowing organizations to curate and shape how users viewed their brand. Seems almost too good to be true.” (Montenegro)Īs technology continues to evolve and connect users in new and profound ways, social media applications have to adapt to the ever-changing digital landscape - sometimes pioneering a new wave on how brands reach their audiences, intentional or not. Add to this a rise in sales and you have a fantastic deal. Just suddenly having a surge of online activity without even lifting a finger. “Imagine gaining 15,000 billion media impressions in the space of a month, without doing anything.

Lume cube rgb panel pro11/10/2023 Lume Cube rates the RGB Panel Pro 2.0 as 10% brighter than the last generation ‘Pro’, but stacked up alongside our 2019 Lume Cube Panel, the latter seems ever so slightly brighter. For what it’s worth, the very first Lume Cube Panel could only be adjusted in 5% increments. Just like the original RGB Panel Pro, the light itself can be fine-tuned from 1% to 100%, in 1% increments, meaning you have plenty of control over the brightness. The RGB Panel Pro 2.0 remembers the last settings that were inputted, which is useful since you’ll likely be turning the light on and off to conserve power. Since you no longer have to hold the power button down, you can flick the switch and move on, without having to wait for the light to flicker to life. The light takes a couple of seconds to boot up, while you’re greeted with the Lume Cube logo on the LCD screen. Add in the ability to control and group multiple lights and you have full control over your lighting setup with the tap of your smartphone’s screen. We had no problem pairing our panel and found the interface intuitive, and most importantly, extremely responsive, with minimal to no lag. However, any potential grievances with the physical controls dissolve into the ether once you fire up the Lume Control app. The Panel Pro 2.0 features a more in-depth menu system than its predecessor and navigating this with physical buttons can prove a little frustrating. On that note, and just like the previous Panel Pro, you have two standard 1/4-inch tripod screws, allowing you to mount the LED panel horizontally or vertically on a tripod. This never prevented us from attaching the plate securely, it just made things a little bit more fiddly. It’s just a shame the tabs used to grip the light aren’t spaced a little further apart as we found they had a tendency to get in the way when screwing on a tripod plate. The clip-on diffuser fits sturdily on the device and if our original Lume Cube Panel (from 2019) is anything to go by, it’ll prove surprisingly sturdy, too. On the one hand, this is a clever feature, but on the other, we found ourselves constantly attempting to use the dial, only to inadvertently lock the wheel in the process… Overall, we’d rather have a locking mechanism than not, but a dedicated locking switch would be high up on our wishlist for an RGB Panel Pro 3.0. Pushing it in locks the dial, so if you’re holding the light or adjusting its positioning, you don’t inadvertently change your settings. The dial that’s used to increase/decrease the selected value is springy, so you can push it inwards, but it will spring back when you alleviate the pressure. When you’re constantly turning the light on and off to conserve power between shots or takes, holding the button down for a second or two quickly becomes a bit of a chore and the new switch completely eliminates this. The RGB Panel Pro V1 required you to hold down a button to switch the device on/off, while also doubling as the Mode button. The matte aluminum case is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, but it’s a smart little light nonetheless.Īs with previous iterations, the controls are positioned down the side of the device and although it might not seem like a big change, the inclusion of a dedicated power button that flicks up and down is a welcome quality-of-life upgrade. The metallic blue Mode button has a cool, premium feel to it, as does the beveled edge surrounding the postage-stamp-sized LCD screen. This is light enough to add minimal heft to your kit bag, but just heavy enough to feel solid in the hand.Īs far as LED panels go, it’s a nice-looking device. It’s also the same weight as its predecessor: 0.51lb/0.23kg. Gone are the RGB Panel Pro V1’s visible screws the entire panel is now seamlessly encased. Lume Cube refers to the RGB Panel Pro 2.0 as having a: “New, more durable exterior.” And while we don’t have its predecessor to physically compare, its aluminum casing does feel very solid in the hand. Pastel de nata ingredients11/10/2023 When the monastery was briefly closed in the early 19th century, the recipe found its way into the hands of an enterprising local businessman, and his shop now sells about 20,000 a day. Instead of a short, crumbly pastry, the pastel de nata has a crisp, slightly salty, layered crust and, rather than the firm, egg-rich fillings of the classic British or French custard tart, the filling is almost molten, and spiced with cinnamon and lemon zest, as opposed to our peppery nutmeg or sweet vanilla.Īs chef Nuno Mendes explains in his love letter to the city of his birth, Lisboeta, they were originally sold at the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos in Belém. Once the custards come out of the oven and cool, you can sprinkle them with icing sugar and cinnamon.Calling pastel de nata a Portuguese custard tart is a bit like calling a pasty a Cornish calzone – similar in principle, but a very different beast in reality. Place the molds in a very hot oven (250 to 300 degrees centigrade). Remove from the heat and wait until the mixture cools down. To prepare the filling, mix all the ingredients and bring them to a boil. Moist your thumb in water and spread the dough to the edges of the mold. Place the dough at the center of a small mold. Cut the rolls into pieces of 2 to 3 centimeters. Cut it in stripes and fold into long rolls. Repeat the operation twice, first using the second third and then the last third of the butter. Stretch the dough again forming a square. Fold the dough from bottom to top and from left to right, making sure that the fold fits perfectly at edges and on the sides. Spread one third of the butter over the dough, leaving a strip of one inch at the edges of the square. Knead some of the butter until it has the same consistency as the dough. Next, stretch the dough into a square form. Kneed the mixture until it becomes homogeneous and let it rest for 20 minutes. Place the flour on a stone table and make a hole in the middle of the flour to pour the water. Melt the salt in warm water and divide the butter into three equal portions. Ingredients for the filling: 5 deciliters of cream, 8 egg yolks, 3 tablespoons of flour, 200 grams of sugar, and one lemon peel. Ingredients for the puff pastry: 500 grams of flour, 500 grams of butter, 2 to 3 deciliters of water, and salt. It is a place where it is ordinary to find the extraordinary: heavenly pasteis de nata sold for a modest price in every street corner. After a few hours of work, we were rewarded with two dozen delicious pasteis de nata.Īll the effort that went into making these pastries made us appreciate Portugal even more. We started by making a version of rough puff pastry, folding the dough to create delicate layers of butter and flour. The ingredients are humble: flour, butter, cream, eggs, sugar, water, and lemon. She tells us the key elements of the recipe and expects us to improvise the rest. They’re more like jazz lead sheets than classical music scores. Modesto’s instructions assume we know what we’re doing. The old pages creaked, surprised to be turned with such urgency. We opened with trepidation “Cozinha Tradicional Portuguesa” (Portuguese Traditional Cooking), the imposing tome of vernacular recipes compiled by the legendary Maria de Lurdes Modesto. Far from a purveyor of “pasteis de nata,” how else can we satiate our craving for these divine custard tarts? Do not try this recipe at home unless you’re desperate! Which is how we feel. Mixbus processing11/10/2023 Since version 3, Mixbus supports both audio and MIDI tracks and it no longer depends on JACK, although JACK can still be used as one of its audio backends. It’s the coat of polish on your new guitar. It’s the cherry on top of your ice cream sundae. Instead of adjusting individual tracks, you use tools like EQ, compression, and saturation on the whole mix. In earlier versions, it also depended on the JACK audio server as its backend. Painted ceiling tiles11/10/2023 If in doubt, wait a little bit longer before you proceed to paint. Once you have applied primer to the surface, let it dry for two hours. The brush is also handy when you need to get rid of drips where the primer might have been a bit too thick. You can also use a nylon paintbrush for all those areas you cannot reach with the roller. When you are ready with the right primer, use a roller to apply the primer. They might even be able to recommend specific brands. If you are unsure about which products to use, ask your ceiling tile provider for professional advice. Since harsh chemicals are absent in these products, it will ensure that the tiles are not damaged. In this case, you’ll want a water-based primer. Remember, since the tiles are made from polystyrene, it’s important that you use the appropriate products. You will need to apply primer before painting the surface. While you’re at it, make sure that you cover furniture and any items that you are not able to remove from the room. The idea here is to let the tape keep any excess paint from getting on parts of your ceilings and walls that you don’t want painted. Protect your walls and ensure a straight line between the ceiling and the walls by applying painter’s tape or masking tape around the edges. This is an essential step for when you want to prepare the area for paint. Use a soft broom or brush to get rid of any dust. If you do plan to paint your Styrofoam ceiling tiles, there are a few things you should keep in mind before starting the process.Īll surfaces gather dust, and your ceiling is no exception. One of the benefits of Styrofoam tiles is that you can enjoy them as they are for a period of time, and if you ever get bored with the way they look, you can freshen things up with a coat of paint. There are many home and business owners who choose to leave the tiles as they are, but there are others who prefer to paint them. Additionally, Styrofoam tiles arrive unfinished, which gives you the freedom to personalize your tiles. Apart from adding style to a room, Styrofoam ceiling tiles are easy to install and virtually maintenance-free. Peters principle11/10/2023 Even when organizations do a good job, they tend to focus on the skills and experience related to the function of the job but not on identifying and describing the managerial leadership skills that are required. In a related article we outlined the three aspects that are necessary to address – Knowledge, Technical Skills and Social Processing Skills. Most organizations are pretty good at identifying the knowledge and skills required for the technical aspects of a position. When managers don’t have the right problem solving capability, they continue to work at the same level as they worked in their previous job, and they can’t add value to their new team, because they are working more at their former peer level, rather than one level up. Which is why, in order to succeed as a manager, one must possess the right problem solving capability. Problem Solving CapabilityĪs employees move up in an organization and work gets more complex, a higher level of capability is required to deal with that complexity of work. The remaining three causes for manager not being successful are what were consider to be The 3 Fundamental Capabilities of Managers. When evaluating potential candidates for a promotion, organizations should make sure they dig beneath the surface. The idea that successful managers make the most effective managers is number nine on our list of The Top 12 Fallacies That Get In The Way of Organizational Performance. Successful managers tend to be better at networking and presenting themselves around senior staff, but their charisma is not a good indicator of their effectiveness. Though the qualities that make an employee successful are valuable, they are different from the qualities that make a manager effective. Success Does Not Always Equal Effectiveness Effectiveness in a managerial role requires that managers apply themselves fully to all aspects of their work.Effective managers require managerial leadership skills and knowledge in addition to the technical skills of the role.An individual won’t be successful as a manager unless they possess the appropriate problem solving capabilities for the complexity of work in their role. The success of an individual does not equate to the effectiveness of an individual as a manager. The Peter Principle and over-promotion tends to happen in organizations where there is a lack of awareness of the following four important facts: According to the Peter Principle, people tend to be promoted until they rise to “their level of incompetence.” The Peter Principle refers to an employee being promoted for their performance in their current role, rather than the capabilities required for the promotion. There is a concept in management theory that deals with this: the Peter Principle. In fact this presumption is number two on our list of The Top Twelve Fallacies That Get In The Way of Organizational Performance. Just because an employee excels at their current job, doesn’t mean that they will excel as a manager. When it comes time to fill a managerial vacancy, many organizations make the mistake of promoting top performers without considering if they have the appropriate abilities to be a manager.
